BELIEVE AGAIN

Like most Australians, I am sick of the smoke and mirrors our party politicians have become renowned for. The lies. The distractions. The deceptions. We deserve to believe again – and that’s why I have decided to run as an independent Senate candidate in the upcoming Federal Election. With your support, I want to represent Queensland in the Federal Senate and hold our politicians accountable for the words they say and the promises they make. I have never backed away from a fight in my life and this will be one of my biggest yet. Let’s make a difference together. READ MORE

LEND A HAND

When it comes to tackling the might of the major political parties, I am very much David to their Goliath. They have more money and resources than I will ever have. However, what they don’t have is the passion of my wonderful supporters – many of whom have donated and volunteered to lend a hand during this election campaign. Your efforts will be crucial and we now need even more people to captain teams in their local areas, put bumper stickers on their cars, host signs in their yards, put up posters or volunteer at polling booths. If you want to join our growing and strong army, please visit our sign up page HERE. Likewise, your financial donation, no matter how small, will be gratefully received CLICK HERE.

ALRC REPORT TRAGEDY

Another week, another political disgrace. For years our leaders have told me they needed to wait for the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) Report on the Family Law System to be handed down before they could call for the Royal Commission they know our children desperately need. Yesterday that the ALRC Report was released but, instead of recommending significant change, it proposes handing control of the Family Courts to the states and territories – yet another delaying tactic by a Government that has no idea how to fix a “broken” system that is destroying young lives. THE NDIS IS A MESS

One of my greatest frustrations in recent times has been receiving phone calls, emails and letters from people distressed by bureaucratic bungling but being unable to fully support them as it fell outside my child safety remit. No more! Last week saw me call for a structural reform of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) after being flooded by concerns from participants and carers.
The NDIS is a mess and it’s irresponsible and incompetent of governments to roll out schemes that cost taxpayers billions of dollars and not have the administrative support structure behind them. READ MORE.

BUDGET DISGRACE

After 22 years battling governments for genuine child safety reform, nothing should surprise me when it comes to our party politicians – and yet they continue to disappoint. So it proved when the Treasurer this week announced $7.8 million from the Federal Budget for a National Child Sex Offenders Register that is not supported by research and will not serve to actually protect children. NOMINATE ME FOR SENATE!

Before I can run for Senate, I need your nomination. Nominating is easy. Just head to https://www.hettyjohnston.com.au/nominations/.

Remember, to be accepted by the Australian Electoral Commission, nominators must be registered to vote in Queensland with their details listed exactly as they appear on the electoral roll. If in doubt, you can check your enrollment at https://check.aec.gov.au/ or by calling 13 23 26.

Once the election is called, expect a call from the AEC as they’ll need to check the authenticity of your nomination.
