QUEENSLAND should have a government declared by the week’s end, pundits predict. But scrutineers are still sweating on a few seats to determine the new parliament’s make-up.
The Electoral Commission won’t start distributing preferences until tomorrow in the cliffhanger seats of Maiwar or Macalister, but Labor is counting on winning Macalister.
This would see it reach 47 seats, the minimum needed for majority government.
A late vote surge for independent Macalister candidate Hetty Johnston has unnerved some in the Labor Party, but Ms Johnston believed it still wouldn’t be enough for her.
